Japan is facing the potential of a massive debt crisis. The government of Japan is heavilly in debt and desperately needs low interest rates in order to make payments on this debt. If interest rates go up Japan will have a liqudity crisis similar to all the people who bought houses they could only afford as long as interest rates remained low who lost their homes when interest rates made a modest increase.
